Dents has been making fine leather gloves since 1777 and today exports across the world. The company has already had long connections with the British Royal Family, creating special gloves for Queen Victoria and the unique gloves used in the Coronation Services for both HM King George VI in 1937 and Her Majesty Queen Elizabeth II in 1953.

Most recently Dents were granted a Royal Warrant of Appointment to HRH The Prince of Wales for the manufacture of gloves.

Harking back to the golden age of motor racing, a good pair of leather driving gloves can really bring out your inner Stirling Moss. Whilst they may exude style, they also have function.

Greater Control. The tack of a leather glove offers superior grip and control over the wheel. They’re especially useful when driving on the highway.

Reduces Hand Fatigue. Driving gloves reduce the vibrations from your wheel that tire the hand when driving for long periods of time.

    Preserves Your Steering Wheel
. Oils and sweat from your hands can break down leather and wood steering wheels. Driving gloves act as a barrier.

    Comfort in Extreme Weather. In
the cold, driving gloves keep your hands nice and toasty. In the heat, they help keep your hands at a mild temperature.

If you are not sure about your glove size, measure the hand you normally write with at its widest point in inches (excluding the thumb), then round down to the nearest half or whole number - this will be your glove size.

Gloves sizes come in half and whole numbers, between 7½ and 11½ for men and 6 and 8½ for women. For example, if your hand measures 8½ inches around its widest point (excluding the thumb), your glove size is 8½.

If you are between sizes, choose the smaller size. Gloves should be snug at first but will stretch.

A BRIEF HISTORY OF DRIVING GLOVES
Back in the early 19th Century cars were without windshields and heating systems. So man discovered the need for Driving Gloves, especially in winter. Unfortunately the first designs were made from heavy leather which reduced both feel and mobility.

As time progressed, motorists demanded grip from their gloves, so thinner, non-slip versions were rapidly developed.

With the modernisation of cars around the 70s, the introduction of the heating system and the improvement to the steering wheel surface, the need to wear driving gloves seemed to be less; Nevertheless, the continuous search for a better performance by the increasing number of car enthusiasts and the desire for a unique style have made this valuable accessory a timeless style element that still identifies gentlemen with driving passion in their blood.

    LOOKING AFTER YOUR GLOVES
Prevent any chance of marks staining your gloves wherever possible. When they aren’t being worn, gently pull your gloves into shape and lay them flat, then store them in a cool place (like a drawer or your car’s glove box), away from any liquids and dirt.

It’s a bonus if you still have a box or packaging that came with your gloves. If your gloves do need a little TLC, you can follow these tips:

FOR WET GLOVES – Smooth them out and allow them to dry naturally in a towel, away from any external heat source, such as a radiator or hair dryer or the sun.

FOR HEAVY SOILING – It’ll be well worth visiting a specialised leather dry cleaner for their services.

FOR LIGHT SOILING (that hasn’t dried in yet)
    1. Prepare a hand hot solution of soft soap flakes such as “Lux”

    2. Gently sponge down the outside leather of the gloves with this solution.

    3. Try not to saturate the leather and dab off any excess wetness with a clean dry cloth.

    4. Allow the gloves to dry naturally and do not use any external heat source such as a radiator, hair dryer or the sun.

    5. As the gloves are drying, wear them several times. This will help to stretch the leather and restore the shape of the gloves to the profile of the hands. You may also use a proprietary leather cleaner or conditioner, but make sure you read the product instructions carefully to check that the product you are using is suitable for your glove leather. They’ll be spick and span in no time!
