From the private collection of Tim Scott, former Assistant Team Manager of 7UP Jordan Formula 1 team. Autographed by Eddie Jordan and the designer of the 191, Gary Anderson.

This is a rare opportunity to own the fantastically detailed and supremely accurate, autographed replica of the car driven by Michael Schumacher at the 1991 Belgian Grand Prix. His first drive in F1. It has been created by U.S. company Real Art Replicas, part of the famous die cast model company ACME Trading Co.

The 191 is considered by many to be one of the most beautiful Formula 1 cars of all time and won the Autosport Racing Car of the Year award for 1991.

ABOUT THE JORDAN 191
In 1991, their first season, Jordan finished fifth in the Constructors' Championship, scoring 13 points with the 191. De Cesaris was ninth in the Drivers' Championship with nine points while Gachot's four points earned him a share of 12th.

JORDAN GRAND PRIX - THE EARLY YEARS
A successful racer himself, Eddie Jordan was forced to switch to a role as entrant at the end of the 1970s after his funds had dried up. Combining his keen eye for young talent and business savvy, Jordan's F3 team gradually moved up the ranks during the 1980s. Among the drivers that raced for Eddie Jordan Racing in this period were Johnny Herbert, Jean Alesi, Martin Donnelly and Eddie Irvine. By establishing Jordan Grand Prix and subsequently entering Formula 1 in 1991, Jordan made the final step up the ladder.

Entering F1 meant a fundamental change for Jordan as he could no longer rely on cars being produced by others, he would have to build his own. The task of designing the very first 'Jordan' was assigned to Gary Anderson. This was a logical step as Jordan's most recent successes in F3000 were with Reynards that had also been the work of Anderson. To build and run the new F1 cars, Jordan Grand Prix set up their workshop across from the main entry gate of the Silverstone circuit.

SCHUMACHER'S F1 DEBUT IN THE 191
Jordan entered their first year in Formula 1 with drivers Andrea de Cesaris and Bertrand Gachot. They begun the year well, grabbing a few points and Gachot setting the team's first fastest lap at the Hungarian Grand Prix. He then had to return to England to face charges of assault after an altercation with a London Taxis driver.

Gachot was handed a six months prison sentence and Jordan found themselves a driver short for the next race at Spa in two weeks.

When Willi Weber (who was representing a young German, Mercedes Group C driver called Michael Schumacher) heard the news of Jordan's problem, he pounced immediately. Eddie Jordan was cautious of the inexperienced 22 year old, even though he had been developing a great reputation with strong performances in the World Sportscar Championship.

“Eddie wanted to know if he had ever driven at Spa" recalls Weber, "so I told him ‘I think about 100 times’, which was a complete lie, because Michael was never at Spa before!".

Schumacher was given the chance to test the 191 at Silverstone. Mark Gallagher remembers it well. "He was absolutely on it from the word go".  Although the test was only for a few installation laps, Schumacher had something to prove. “The only way they got him to stop was someone physically having to walk onto the track and stand in front of him and get him to come in,” said Gallagher.

Schumacher was confirmed as the second driver for Spa. The price was £150,000 and Mercedes confirmed they would guarantee the money, with help from sponsors Dekra and Tic Tac.

At Spa, De Cesaris was given the task of driving the rookie around the circuit to show him the ropes. De Cesaris failed to arrive, so Schumacher took matters into his own hands, riding the track a couple of times on a fold up bike he had brought with him.

Friday practice arrived and Schumacher ended the day 8th fastest, on a track he had never driven.

He then qualified a very impressive 7th matching the team's best grid position that season and two rows ahead of his team-mate.

On race day, Schumacher started well and was already up to 5th at turn 1, passing Alesi and Piquet. But that's when it all went wrong. The 191's clutch disintegrated and the car coasted to a halt just one mile from the start.

With Schumacher out, the team's fortunes lay with De Cesaris and with three laps remaining he was up to second, a mere three seconds behind race leader Ayrton Senna who was struggling with a gearbox problem. “My goodness, we’re going to win the race,” thought Gallagher at the time. 

But De Cesaris had his own dramas, with his Cosworth engine running out of oil, it finally died on the approach to Pouhon. 

“It was an epic weekend – we nearly won the thing," said Gallagher, "but we went away from the weekend probably reflecting on the fact that Schumacher looked to be very quick, but also reflecting on the fact that our car was fantastic".

Schumacher would never drive the 191 again. 

After much behind the scenes negotiating Benetton poached Schumacher from under Jordan's nose before the next race, but parted with the news that “I have a younger brother, Ralf, he’s even quicker than I am.”

Seven years later the team finally won their first Grand Prix at Spa, with Damon Hill leading Ralf Schumacher in a one-two finish for Jordan.

ABOUT TIM SCOTT

The MD of Motorsport Memorabilia Tim Scott joined Jordan GP in 1990 as Assistant Team Manager for the 7-UP Jordan Formula 1 Team.

Tim was responsible for Logistics and Presentation amongst many other roles. 


"At the time the whole team in the Silverstone factory and Race Team comprised of just 39 people.

From testing the new 191 at Silverstone which was driven by John Watson, right through the season it was one big roller coaster of hard work, fun and excitement. The Jordan Team was one big happy family, with everybody working towards the same goal.

We started the season with Andrea de Cesaris and Bertrand Gachot until Bertrand had a bit of trouble in London with a taxi driver and as a result couldn't finish the season. And so on we went with the brilliant Michael Schumacher driving at Spa, only to be replaced at Monza by the Brazilian Roberto Moreno who in turn was superseded by Alex Zanardi, a seriously nice person with an incredible talent".

The 1/8th 191 we offer was designed by the ultra talented Gary Anderson and both he and the effervescent team owner Eddie Jordan have signed a plaque affixed to the model's base.

This model is ultimately a good investment if nothing more than celebrating the first Formula One race driven by Michael Schumacher.

Returns Policy

You may return most new, unopened items within 30 days of delivery for a full refund. We'll also pay the return shipping costs if the return is a result of our error (you received an incorrect or defective item, etc.).

You should expect to receive your refund within four weeks of giving your package to the return shipper, however, in many cases you will receive a refund more quickly. This time period includes the transit time for us to receive your return from the shipper (5 to 10 business days), the time it takes us to process your return once we receive it (3 to 5 business days), and the time it takes your bank to process our refund request (5 to 10 business days).
