Leyton House Classic Hoodie
Every genius has to start somewhere...even Adrian Newey.
The CG901 was designed by Adrian Newey for the 1990 season. Although aerodynamically very sophisticated, the aquamarine cars struggled even to qualify for many of the races in the first half of the season. After two DNQs at the Mexican race Newey split from the team and went to Williams. His legacy for Leyton House was a revised B specification car.
The design of this garment has been remastered from an original 1990s Leyton House sweatshirt.
The B spec qualified well at the following week's French Grand Prix. During the race Leyton House staged what is possibly the greatest comeback in F1 history. Ivan Capelli led a Leyton House one-two deep into the race. Mo Gugelmin suffered an oil scavenge problem and retired at three quarters' distance and Capelli eventually came in second with a very sick sounding engine. The team were nevertheless deliriously happy.
The car was sold sometime during the collapse of the team and eventually came to rest in Japan. It took nearly two years for us to find the car through one of our many contacts worldwide, but eventually it was tracked down to a Porsche dealership in Tokyo.
The car was finally brought back to England and arrived at Sywell in March 2007. The fully restored chassis 003 was successfully ran at the 2009 Goodwood Festival of Speed, achieving 1st in class and an overall second place.
