Arrows A4 Warsteiner Team T Shirt
Arrows Racing
As is often the case in, the legacy of a Formula 1 car is not always measured in results alone. The Arrows A4 is just such a car.
Having defected from the Shadow F1 Team, Italian businessman Franco Ambrosio, along with Alan Rees, Jackie Oliver, Dave Wass and Tony Southgate, created ARROWS Grand Prix International in 1978.
Their first car the FA1 was produced in just 53 days but was withdrawn partway through the season after a legal protest from the Shadow team, on the grounds that it was too similar to their own DN9 design. Knowing it would lose the case, Arrows had already designed a new car, the A1 and did not miss a race.
The Arrows A4 Formula 1 car debuted at the Grand Prix of South Africa in 1982, where was driven by Brian Henton and Mauro Baldi.
Designed by Dave Wass and powered by a Ford Cosworth DFV it was registered in 15 races during the 1982 F1 championship and won 5 points, as the result of: one fifth prize at Canadian GP with Marc Surer, two sixth prizes with Mauro Baldi, one sixth prize with Marc Surer. Over 30 years down the track, the A4 is currently one of the most competitive cars in the Historic F1 Championship with amazing recent results.
